Crias are baby alpacas
Hi! My name is Stacy. My husband and I own an alpaca ranch called White River Alpacas, LLC in Marshfield, Missouri. We’re just outside Springfield in southern Missouri. AKA The Ozarks.
We started our alpaca business in 2001 and absolutely LOVE alpacas. Our visitors do too. In fact, many of our visitors have requested that we start a Blog, so here’s my first attempt at this endeavor. We’ll talk about what’s going on at the farm, show photos of our “kids” and keep you up to date on events, shows and seminars.
Probably the most common question I get when I talk to people who have seen the alpaca commericals is “Are they really that gentle?” And the answer I always give is, yes – at least mine are. I’m a very hands-on care giver.
As soon as they are born I pick them up and dry them off. They also have to be weighed, so they are use to being handled. I talk to them and they are use to hearing my voice. Naturally “Mom” is right there and she is humming to her newborn, and I’m working with Mom too.
Some people refer to this as “imprinting”. No matter what you call it, they have human contact immediately and learn to trust us.
Alpacas are absolutely wonderful creatures and my world is all the better for having them in my life.
